Transport of dangerous goods
Dangerous goods are substances or articles that can cause damage to people, animals, the environment or materials. Based on its properties, the substance or article is assigned a Dangerous Goods class. UN regulations list 9 different classes of dangerous goods. Based on the substance/articles properties, it can also be assigned a subsidiary risk. When loading dangerous goods, one should always take any subsidiary risk into considerations.
The transport of dangerous goods is regulated by both national and international legislation as follows:
Maritime transports: IMDG (IMDG-Code Amdt. 32-04) Road transports: ADR (VAK) (ADR 2005)
Silja Oy Ab observes the latest versions of the above-mentioned regulations.

On our ships ms Sea Wind and ms Sky Wind (Stockholm-Turku) we can also offer transports carried out in accordance with the ADR/RID regulations. On the Stockholm-Helsinki line only dangerous cargo units that meet IMDG requirements can be transported.
