Except for the national holiday (German Unity Day), public holidays in Germany are determined by the federal states and may vary a lot. Catholics and Lutherans have difference in their religious holidays. Main Public holidays are the following:
• 1.1. New Year's Day • 6.1. Epiphany (only in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and Saxony-Anhalt) • Good Friday, 2 days before Easter Sunday • Easter Monday, 1 day after Easter Sunday • 1.5. Labour Day • 13.5.2010 Ascension Day (39 days after Easter Sunday) • 24.5.2010 Whit Monday (50 days after Easter Sunday) • 3.6.2010 Corpus Christi (50 days after Easter Sunday) • 8.8. Peace Festival (only in Bavaria) • 15.8. Maria Himmelfahrt (Assumption Day), Catholic holiday • 3.10. German Unity Day • 31.10. Reformation Day (only in 5 new states) • 1.11. All Saints (Catholic religious holiday) • Day of Repentance and Prayer, Wed before 23.11. (only in Bavaria and Saxony) • 25.12. Christmas Day • 26.12. St Stephen's Day |
