Tallink serviced over 8 million passengers during last financial year.

AS Tallink Grupp serviced a record number of 8, 1 million passengers during the last financial year, which ended on 31st of August. The passenger volumes of the company have gone up 15 percent compared to the previous year. The number of transported passenger vehicles increased by almost 200 000 units reaching 863 000 (+29 %).

According to the Vice Chairman of the Board of AS Tallink Grupp Mr. Andres Hunt are investments to the new ships as well as modern sales system the main reason behind the continuous increase of volumes „Renewal of routes during last years has had very positive feedback from the passengers. Our new sales system enables us to implement more active selling strategy and it has significantly increased for instance booking our trips online. Due to the general economic situation people also prefer spending their vacation in nearby countries and take their car with them, “added Hunt.

„Decrease of the transported cargo units is the result of the fall in trading due to the economical crises, “said Hunt.

In financial year 2008/2009 Tallink transported altogether 8 124 561 (+15%) passengers, 863 017 (+29%) passenger vehicles and 252 026 (-24%) cargo units.
In July the company reached a new record in the monthly volumes, transporting over one million passengers in one calendar month.

During last seven years the company was delivered altogether 7 new cruise and fast ferries, 6 of them built in STX Europe (former Aker Yards), Finland and one in Fincantieri, Italy. The investment to the fleet renewal program was over 1,3 billion Euros. The newest addition to the company’s fleet of 20 vessels was the cruise ferry Baltic Queen, delivered in April 2009. Baltic Queen is now operating on Tallinn-Stockholm route.

AS Tallink Grupp operates also a hotel chain Tallink Hotels, which as 4 hotels in Tallinn, capital of Estonia. In spring 2010 Tallink Hotels will launch a new hotel in Riga, capital of Latvia.

The financial year of AS Tallink Grupp begins on 1st of September and ends on 31st of August. The company is listed on Nasdaq OMX Tallinn Stock Exchange.
