Welcome to Gotland: admire the beautiful nature, learn about its 1000 years old history and enjoy the cultural events. The island, from Fårö in the North to Sudret in the South, has a lot to offer.
The scenery in Gotland is very varied: rugged cliffs, leafy, wooded meadows, mile-long sandy beaches. In the northwestern part of Gotland there are high cliffs, fascinating ”Raukar” (natural statues of stone), and interesting flat rocks. In the South you can admire the wide, open landscapes and the beautiful Baltic Sea.
On the western cost of Gotland there are a lot of small roads leading to fishing villages. The distances in Gotland are short and new experiences are waiting for you just round every corner.
The Middle Ages are still present in Gotland. The capital of Gotland and the old Hansatown, Visby, is an extremely well-preserved medieval city with a network of narrow, cobbled streets, ruins of churches and abbeys, romantic gardens, hanseatic houses and the ring defence wall with more than 50 towers. Visby, the "City of Roses and Ruins" has been inscripted into UNESCO World Heritage List.
Enjoy the delicious food: there are a lot of good restaurants und cafeterias everywhere on the island. And, did you know that the world-famous Pippi Longstocking lives in Gotland? Her house, the colourful Villa Villekulla is today a museum near Visby.
