The medieval red brick gabled houses and imposing churches witness to the wealth of the city's medieval merchants. The visitors are greeted already from a distance by the St. Petri's church's 117 meter-high steeple. The astonomical clock of St. Marie's church built in 1472 is one of the most charming sights. Close by to St. Marie's curch there is the town hall with its seven spires. Four of the original 22 city gates and the defensive wall still remain in the eastern part of the old center.

The charming bath town Warnemünde is part of Rostock since 14th century, then a small fishing village. The scent of smoked fish is still strongly a detail of Warnemünde alonside its 100 years old lighthouse.

The Rostock zoo and botanical garden are also worth a visit.
